Today, consumers are focusing on the face recognition function of smartphone screens, and are also looking forward to a new generation of fingerprint recognition technology under the ultrasound screen. However, some experts pointed out that at this stage, the fingerprint recognition system under the screen can only function if it is done on the OLED.
According to Xu Meiwen, senior research manager of International Data Information Corporation (IDC), the fingerprint recognition technology under the ultrasonic screen cannot be used on the LCD panel. It can only be used in OLED panels, mainly because the OLED panel emits light without backlight module. The backlight module of the panel may block the function of the fingerprint recognition system under the ultrasonic screen.
Xu Meiwen said that the major mobile phone brand manufacturers interested in launching the fingerprint recognition function under the screen, the reason why the OLED panel is locked, is that it does not need a backlight module, which allows the sound wave to penetrate smoothly. In the early stage, the fingerprint recognition system under the ultrasound screen will be based on area recognition, limited to a small part of the screen of the mobile phone to do fingerprint recognition, but in the end it is expected to launch a full-screen fingerprint-recognizable product.
At present, Taiwan's main display panel manufacturers push the MiniLED panel, hoping to compete with the OLED panel, but because the MiniLED panel still needs a backlight module, I am afraid it is not the choice of the panel for the development of the fingerprint recognition system under the ultrasonic screen.
Xu Meiwen believes that the MicroLED panel after MiniLED does not need a backlight module, and it will be one of the panel options for the fingerprint recognition system under the ultrasonic screen. However, the MicroLED technology is still not mature. At this stage, only the OLED panel is suitable for this function.
