According to Paul Peng, chairman of AU Optronics, AU Optronics is currently working hard to enhance the production capacity of its flexible OLED display. In 2019, the new foldable mobile phone launched by mobile phone brands will see its flexible screen application. .
A few days ago, after the world's leading smartphone brands Samsung Electronics and Huawei launched the foldable phones Galaxy Fold and Mate X respectively, Paul Peng made the above goals. According to industry sources, other smartphone manufacturers, including Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi and Lenovo, are also expected to launch their own collapsible smartphones in 2019.
Unlike Huawei's out-folding display developed by BOE, AU Optronics will develop an in-folding flexible display with higher technical barriers. AUO is currently producing flexible displays for AV/VR devices and smart watches through its 4.5G OLED production line in Singapore.
At the same time, Peng said that based on AUO's capabilities in manufacturing processes, materials and display design, AUO will continue to expand its flexible panel production capacity and develop relevant flexible applications based on customer needs.
However, AU Optronics declined to confirm that Motorola (Lenovo), which has recently been speculated by the market, is ready to launch a RAZA collapsible smartphone using AUO's flexible display.
In 2019, global Foldable Smartphone shipments will not be too high. Industry observers expect Samsung Galaxy Fold to ship 1 million units, while Huawei Mate X will ship 200,000 units.
