According to Sigmaintell Consulting, in the first quarter of 2019, BOE surpassed all other competitors to become the world's largest TV panel supplier (whether in terms of unit shipments or panel area shipments).
As global TV panel shipments fell by 4.5% in the first quarter of 2019, down 6.3% year-on-year to 70.5 million, BOE achieved such a gratifying achievement.
In terms of panel area shipments, in the first quarter of 2019, global TV panel shipments decreased by 4.1% quarter-on-quarter and 10.6% year-on-year.
Affected by the continuous growth of Chinese enterprises' production capacity, in the first quarter of 2019, China's TV panel unit shipments accounted for 46.4% of global shipments, and panel area shipments accounted for 41.9% of global shipments. Among them, BOE's shipments reached 14.62 million, an increase of 16% from the previous month and an increase of 17%. In terms of area shipments, in the first quarter of 2019, BOE panel shipments increased by 9% quarter-on-quarter and 55% year-on-year. With its high-capacity operations at its 8.5G and 10.5G fabs, BOE has also become a top supplier of 32-inch, 43-inch, 65-inch and 75-inch TV panels this quarter.
LG Display ranked second in terms of unit shipments and area shipments, and its unit shipments fell 10% quarter-on-quarter to 12.28 million units.
Innolux ranked third, with a total shipment of 10.77 million units, down 15% from the previous month and up 16% from the same period last year.
Huaxing Optoelectronics (CSOT) shipped 9.4 million units, ranking fourth. Due to the increase in production of 10.5G production line, Huaxing Optoelectronics has become the top supplier of 55-inch panels.
Followed by Samsung Electronics, shipments in the first quarter reached 8.93 million, down 11% year-on-year.
As the shipment of 65-inch panels was offset by the decline in shipments of other model products, AUO shipments were flat this quarter, at approximately 6.27 million.
In the first quarter of 2019, the average size of TV panels reached 44.5 inches, a decrease of 0.4 inches from the previous quarter, mainly due to the increase in the proportion of 32-inch panel shipments to the overall shipments.
