The global vehicle-mounted panel market maintained strong growth. It is expected that shipments in 2018 will be approximately 164 million units, with an annual growth rate of approximately 11%.
In order to create differentiation, depots added more electronic designs to the car interior design, and the display panel became an integral part. In the past, high-resolution, large-size displays were often used in luxury cars. However, as the unit price of on-board panels declined and the market demand increased, the on-board panels began to move toward standardization.
In the automotive panel, total shipments of the three major applications including dashboard, center console, and head-up display are expected to reach 119 million units, an increase of 9% from last year. With rising demand, the overall output value is also growing at a high level. It is estimated that the total output value of these three automotive application panels will be approximately 13.5 billion U.S. dollars, more than NT$400 billion, and the annual growth rate will be as high as 17%.
From the demand point of view, the application of display screens in automobiles has become more and more extensive, and the demand has grown rapidly. From the supply side, more and more panel makers are betting resources on the car panel. In the application of small and medium-sized panels, tablet computers and smart phones have entered the plateau period, and the automotive panel is one of the few applications with double-digit growth.
In addition to the dashboards and center consoles that are now generally seen, the use of display screens in rearview mirrors and rear seat entertainment systems has become increasingly popular.
In 2018, shipments of rearview mirror application panels will grow by 52% to 1.6 million units, compared with only 1 million units shipped last year. Rearview mirror application panel is the fastest growing this year
