Strong demand for comprehensive screens Chunghwa Picture Tubes LCD fab
Lin Sheng-chang, president of Taiwan Chunghwa Picture Tubes, pointed out that due to the industry's strong demand for 18:9 full-screen panels, CPT has increased the price of some mobile phone application panels in the second quarter; currently negotiating with customers to continue to improve the third Quarterly price. At present, the order visibility of the company's full-screen displays has extended to the third quarter, and it is expected that by the end of 2018, the proportion of full-screen display panels to total mobile phone panel shipments will increase from the current 60-70% to over 80%.
Although the company also plans to start selling Liu Hai-style mobile phone panels in the third quarter, due to full-screen models will continue to be the mainstream of the market, Liu Hai-style panel shipments will be limited. Affected by the expansion of panel size, CPT's handset panel shipments are expected to reach 130-140 million units in 2018, a slight drop from the 160 million units in the same period of last year. Lin said that in 2017, the average size of mobile phone panels will be 4-4.5 inches, and in 2018, it may increase to 5 inches.
In 2018, shipments of automotive panels will increase to 14 million units, compared with 12 million units shipped in the same period of last year. Lin said that CPT will continue to expand the ratio of automotive and industrial control application panels to total panel shipments to two-thirds to maintain future growth.
