Reuters quoted the Korea Electronics Times as saying that South Korea's LG Display has been selected as the second OLED screen supplier for the iPhone. Prior to this, Samsung Display (Samsung Display) is the only supplier of OLED screens for the iPhone.
In response to this news, a spokesman for LG Display declined to comment. A representative of Apple's Korea office said it could not comment.
According to people familiar with the matter, LG Display's flexible OLED panels have recently passed a series of Apple quality tests. If the news is true, the supply agreement with Apple will help LG Display gain a foothold in the OLED panel market.
Reuters pointed out that LG Display's main business is LCD display panels, but it faces China's competitors, as well as the decline in panel prices, LG Display has high hopes for the OLED business.
Apple launched the new iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR at this week's new product launch, with the iPhone XS series featuring OLED screens.
