Kuntech has announced that it will invest 40 billion yuan (about 5.77 billion US dollars) to establish a flexible semiconductor service and manufacturing base in Shaanxi, and plans to start the operation of the production base in the fourth quarter of 2020. The flexible AMOLED panel will be officially launched in 2021. Mass production.


Under the plan, Kuntech will build a 6G flexible AMOLED panel production line that will produce 30,000 substrates of 1,500 mm * 1,800 mm per month. The production and service base will also be equipped with a technical research and certification center and a comprehensive supply chain.


As a tablet manufacturer committed to developing self-sufficient flexible display technology, Kuntech aims to be a total solution provider that includes manufacturing and related services.


According to sources, the demand for flexible AMOLED panels will initially come from the smart phone segment, as mobile phone manufacturers including Samsung Electronics, Huawei, Xiaomi and Oppo are expected to launch foldable smartphones in early 2019.


Recently, market news indicates that Samsung Electronics plans to release the folding smartphone Galaxy F at the American Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2019) on January 8, 2019. By then, the application of flexible AMOLED panels will extend to most IT products, such as laptops and tablets, driving the industry's explosive growth in demand for flexible panels.


In addition, according to data provided by IHS Markit, shipments of flexible AMOLED panels are expected to reach 335.7 million units in 2020, exceeding shipments of rigid AMOLED panels (315.9 million units); flexible AMOLED panels account for total AMOLED panel shipments The proportion will also increase from 38.9% in 2018 to 52% in 2020.
