Breaking international monopoly in one fell swoop
OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) display, mainly used in mobile phones, computers, etc. “Traditional LED displays require backlights to be illuminated by liquid crystal polarization, and a new generation of OLED organic materials are coated on conductive substrates, which can be illuminated by power-on.” Mu Guangyuan introduced, “OLED screens can not only reduce eye damage. It can also increase the light extraction rate, reduce energy consumption, and can be folded, curled, and cut. There are endless possibilities for future display. After 7 years of accumulation, the company has independently developed four types of OLED screen luminescent materials such as red, green and blue light-emitting layers and cover layers. "Luminous materials account for 15% of the cost of display manufacturing, but China's OLED industry is lagging behind Japan, South Korea and other countries for about three years. At present, more than 90% of luminescent materials rely on imports; the luminescent materials we developed not only broke the international monopoly, but also downstream. Since Apple took the lead in using OLED screens in 2016, mobile phone manufacturers in various countries have followed suit to update the display screen. China has built 10 OLED screen production lines, including 3 in Hubei, which were built by Huaxing Optoelectronics, Tianma and BOE, with an annual output value of 200 billion yuan.
"Intelligence" achieves innovation
At the beginning of research and development, Shangsai Optoelectronics has always attached great importance to the protection of intellectual property rights.
At present, Shangsai Optoelectronics has about 60 invention patents and utility model patents, 3 international invention patents, and about 30 invention patent applications per year. "We plan to form 150 to 200 knowledge patent clusters within three to five years to ensure that intellectual property disputes will not occur in the future," Mu Guangyuan said.
On the production equipment, Shangsai Optoelectronics also pays attention to localization. "You see, these equipments are produced by our own R&D and domestic manufacturers." Mu Guangyuan said, "I used to import equipment from South Korea, and more than one million yuan. If maintenance is needed, the Korean engineers will start counting from the plane." At present, more than 50 employees of Shangsai Optoelectronics, one-third of them are R&D personnel, including 5 doctors and 6 masters in the field of organic semiconductors.
Since 2014, Shangsai Optoelectronics has invested more than 20 million yuan in research and development. Cultivate the supply chain

Shangsai Optoelectronics draws on the advanced experience of Japan and South Korea, establishes the organization concept of semiconductor materials production and thousands of standard quality control systems, and gradually cultivates its own supply chain system. "The development of the display industry is deductive. It has gradually developed to the upstream of the screen, which is the localization of luminescent materials. However, the upstream industry of luminescent materials in China is still in its original stage. Therefore, we need to cultivate our own supply chain system to provide compliance. Our quality requirements products. No matter which part of the problem, it will affect the quality of the products in the hands of consumers. Just like the mildew of the flour, it will affect the quality of the bread." Mu Guangyuan said.
In addition to establishing its own product quality control system, Shangsai Optoelectronics has also worked with Tianma to develop industry standards for luminescent materials with a view to promoting the development of this industry.
At present, the annual output value of Shangsai Optoelectronics is about 40 million yuan, not only the suppliers of Huaxing Optoelectronics and Tianma, but also some products have entered the Korean business procurement directory. The 70-acre plant is under construction. After the first phase is completed, it will be able to achieve 2 tons of production capacity next year, with an output value of 100 million yuan. After the whole plant is completed and put into production, it will realize an output value of 800 million yuan.
For the future, Mu Guangyuan is full of ambition: "We predict that the OLED screen production line under construction will be put into production within 3 years, and the localization rate will reach 20%. At present, there are no more than 5 domestic energy-production OLED luminescent materials companies, and our company is ready. It will work with its peers to promote the localization of the entire industrial chain."
