On July 9, Taiwan panel maker AUO announced some financial data for the second quarter of 2018. AUO's self-settled consolidated revenue in June was NT$24.83 billion, a decrease of 3.5% from the previous month and a decrease of 13.1% from the same period last year. The consolidated turnover for the second quarter of 2018 was NT$75.05 billion, an increase of 0.8% from the first quarter of 2018 and a decrease of 11.1% compared with the same period in 2017.
In June, shipments of large-size panels (large-size panels, which are 10 inches (inclusive) or more) exceeded 9.63 million, an increase of 2.1% from May. Shipments of small and medium-sized panels were approximately 13.58 million units, a decrease of 10.8% from May.
In the second quarter of 2018, large-size panel shipments were approximately 27.98 million units, a decrease of 2.1% from the first quarter of 2018 and an increase of 4.2% from the same period last year. In the second quarter of 2018, the shipment of small and medium-sized panels was approximately 45.32 million, a decrease of 2.7% compared with the first quarter of 2018, and a 17.3% increase over the same period last year.
AUO has a complete 3.5- to 8.5-generation production line, offering 1.1 to 85 panels covering a wide range of display applications. As of January 2018, AUO has accumulated 23,900 patent applications, and the total number of approved global patents exceeds 17,800.
